Krissy On Building A Successful Blog
1.How long have you been blogging and why did you start?
Basically, I’ve been blogging since 2015. I got my start in blogging with Pinterest. I would joke around and say, “I spend so much time on Pinterest I might as well make it a career!”
Then I seriously started thinking about if I could make it a career, it would be the best career. Because It’s something I love so much.
Next thing you know I started gaining a following on Pinterest. I then started having some of my blogging friends ask me what I did to get traffic, followers, etc.
So I decided I would become a Pinterest marketing strategist, to help bloggers achieve success on the Pinterest platform.
While I was building my Pinterest side hustle, I was also working a 9-5. When I started making 3x more as a Pinterest marketing strategist than my 9-5, it made sense to leave that job and focus on doing what I love.
Plus I am the type of person who is always looking to save time. This allows me to not only save time but have more freedom.
2.What is the main focus of your blog?
The main focus of my blog is to help bloggers start, grow, and monetize their blogs. But I also offer Pinterest marketing and productivity tips.
3.What specific method really helped your blog grow?
As a beginner blogger at the time, and being in a niche that wasn’t over-saturated helped me grow quickly. Starting out, my focus was Pinterest marketing. Honestly, there weren’t many Pinterest marketers at the time, so there was low competition.
So I believe that’s what initially helped me stand out. Now there are a lot more Pinterest marketers, which I love because I collab with a lot of them.
4. Share a big blogging achievement that would inspire beginning bloggers.
As a blogger, my greatest accomplishment by far is connecting with a community of like-minded professionals.
It also gives me a great feeling when someone messages me and says I helped them by reading a blog post that I’ve published (which I had forgotten about).
5.If you could go back, what piece of advice would you tell yourself as a brand new blogger?
“Finish your blog post with some kind of call to action to signup for an email list or follow you on Pinterest.”
After I started doing this, I immediately increased my Pinterest followers by 350% in the first 3 days.
6.What is something you think all beginning bloggers should focus on first?
Learn everything about seo so that way your content will rank. I wish that was something I focused on when I was just getting started.
When I first started blogging I was creating content just because I loved to write and it was a passion. Which is great, the problem was no one was seeing my content because I wasn’t doing seo research properly.
Now every piece of content I create is thoroughly researched. I now know on-page seo and off-page seo.
I learned the best way to research keywords, by using platforms like Ubersuggest. I also research what questions or concerns my audience has. I then answer those questions or concerns in each piece of content I create, so that way I can help them.
7.What inspires you to keep going?
As an INFJ (Myers–Briggs) I always feel drawn to use my creativity in some way. Being a blogger and online entrepreneur is a great creative outlet for me. But besides that, sometimes I feel that working online is like a light in a world of darkness. Where I can shine and be me and free, even when the world is shut down.
8.Do you think there is room for someone to start a successful blog in 2021?
Absolutely–there is always room to start a blog! Here’s the thing: there may be millions of blogs out there. But know what all those millions of blogs don’t have? You. Your voice. Your experiences. No one is you, and that is your superpower. If you are ready to show the world your true and authentic self and start a blog, I say GO FOR IT.
9.What do you do to grow your Pinterest reach?
Over the years I have learned what works and what doesn’t when it comes to Pinterest. But at the same time, algorithms sometimes change. So it’s important to stay up to date with the latest Pinterest trends as well as any new changes to the Pinterest platform.
In order to grow my Pinterest reach, I look at my Pinterest analytics so I can see which strategies and content work best. So I can keep an eye on my marketing and improve it if needed.
I try to have a consistent look with my pins, and I try to always use a CTA on my pins to improve click-throughs.
Sometimes I create infographics from my blog posts and I then pin them to my Pinterest. I get a good amount of shares on my blog from that.
Pinning at the right time is also beneficial, in my experience. This is why I use Tailwind. Because it does most of the hard work for me, and pins when my audience is on the most.
My last tip to grow your Pinterest reach is to make sure your pins are seo optimized. Include keywords and a catchy headline to improve click-throughs.
10.What are some tips you would share to new bloggers to earn money on their blog?
There are many different monetization strategies that work, so find what works best for you. One of my favorite ways to monetize is by joining affiliate programs that pay recurring commissions like ConvertKit. So that way you get paid over and over again.
11.What do you do to develop your blog’s brand?
Developing my blog’s brand has been a work in progress. But finally, I feel like it’s coming together in a way that best represents me! There were a few things I took into consideration while developing my brand.
Target audience-In order to create content to help my audience, I knew I had to know who I was creating it for. Once I figured out my target audience, it was easier to create content for them, especially since I understood their problems in my niche.
Colors and fonts-This is the part I loved the most! While designing the look and feel of my blog, I made sure to include elements that best fit my personality. So that way my audience gets to know me.
Staying consistent-I make sure to always use the same colors, fonts, logos everywhere on the web. That way I can start to get recognized by my audience and also the social media algorithms.
